Your latest assignment is an exercise in visual and cultural anthropology. The study of people dress, style, status, culture, appearance through photography is often referred to as visual anthropology. The idea is to turn the camera inwards to study your own style and culture. You will record, compare and analyze current culture and style through a series of portraits.
How unique are we? The image below is a collage of contradictions, each claiming a unique personal and rebellious style, yet the similarities are evident when compared side by side.

- Look over the links provided and decide on a focus for your study, you could focus on dress style, hair style, jewelry, technology, living quarters, vehicles etc. The idea is to capture each of them in a consistent style/angle/pose/color palette for ease of comparison
- Photograph at least 12 different examples for your final collection
- As always, shoot multiple images and choose the best, keep them in focus and properly exposed
- Display your images in a 3X4 grid similar to the arrangement above, or present in a stacked or connected arrangement, or come up with your own way of presenting and comparing images
- Create a short essay about the comparisons of your subjects, what are the similarities? What are their differences? What else does this study communicate to you?
