New Assignment: Create A Comic Book Page From Photographs

Hello Students,
Your new assignment is to create a 2 comic book style pages and a cover from photographs. Check out the guidelines and follow the filter process to create  cool comic book styled art from photographs.

Comic Book Assignment:

• Brainstorm a short comic book story that will fit into 6 panels
• Sketch or storyboard your scenes on paper, create 1 full page cover image and 2 comic pages with 3 images per page
• Your comic book story could be an action scene, a dramatic scene, a scary story, a dream sequence, a slice of life or a funny story with a punchline... use your imagination
• Check out the comic book panel layouts below for different page design ideas
• Research comic books, look at how the people are posed, color usage, angles, and try to capture that style in your images
• Get your models together, pose and arrange them and shoot your scenes
• Lay your photos out and crop/resize to create your comic book panels and cover

Comic book pages can have lots of different panel layouts, here are 8 different page layouts

How To Style Your Photo Into Comic Book Art:

• Open photo in Photoshop
• Go to Filer > Artistic > Poster Edges
• Adjust sliders for desired effect

Monday: Special Guest Speakers

Hello Students,

On monday we have two special guest speakers, both are photographers. One is a portrait photographer and the other is a landscape and nature photographer. Your assignment before todays open lab is to write a few questions to ask during the guests appearance.

Guest Speaker Preparation Assignment:

• Do some research online about portrait photography and landscape or nature photography.
• Write 10 thoughtful questions you can ask these seasoned professionals.
• Consider issues around how they entered their careers, what are the challenges? What are their most enjoyable aspects of their work? Who has influenced their work? Who or where did they learn their craft from?
• Write your questions down, add your name on the upper right corner and turn into my inbox
