New Assignment: Leading Lines

Hello Students,
Your newest assignment is to demonstrate the concept of leading lines. Check out the examples and read the explanation below thoroughly.

Leading Lines Field Mission:
Leading lines are a very powerful way to control where a viewer looks within your image. Human made lines like railroad tracks, natural lines like shorelines, and even "created" lines such as a line of birds flying can be leading lines. By using leading lines in conjunction with the Rule of Thirds, Centering, and other compositional rules we can further refine the path the viewer's eye takes when studying an image. This control of eye movement helps a photographer to control the impact of their photographs.

Use of leading lines can also allow you to break compositional rules like orientation guidelines by forcing the eye into a location that it might not otherwise follow.

• Submit 10 pictures demonstrating the composition element of leading lines
• When composing your shot, consider other rules of composition
• Use an aperture settings that brings all your leading lines in focus
• Using Photoshop, color correct, crop, effects, etc...
• With each photo, include a sentence describing the path your eyes take when viewing the image.
• Post your results to your blog when complete.

New Assignment: Creating Print Ready Photos

Hello Students,
Your assignment is to create 3 print ready photoshop files from your "greatest hits" assignment. Each student can have up to 2 prints, but it is up to your instructor to decide if the image(s) are print-worthy. You will create print ready files, turn them in to me for evaluation and I will print them, our printer is not networked at this point.

Print Ready Photo Assignment:
Locate original files for each of your 3 images from the "greatest hits" assignment
Open in photoshop and create 3 files that meet the specifications below
Do not stretch, squash or distort your photos to match the size specifications below
give yourself a photo credit in the corner

Print Ready Photoshop File Specifications:
Image size: 8.5 inches by 11 inches (Standard U.S. Paper size)
Resolution: 300 pixels per inch
Color mode: CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black)
File Format: Photoshop
Text: 12 Point, can be any color but must be readable against your photo
Font: Helvetica Neue Regular

Create your files and turn them in to me on a USB thumbdrive, they will be too large for email. Files are due  mid-class Thursday.

New Assignment: Greatest Hits

Hello Students,

Your new assignment is to review the work you have completed up to this point in our ROP Digital Photography class and choose your top 3 favorite pieces of work. Complete this only when you are done with your previous assignment.

Greatest Hits Assignment:

• Review your blog, photo library (you are saving your photos aren't you?) and pick your top 3 favorite photos of all time.
• Write a short paragraph for each photo, why do you like it? What works and what could be improved? What camera, lens and photography method was being used?
• Post these to your blog, make sure you have the source images for each photo, set those aside in a special folder.
